AMP ensure that all coaches are trained on an ongoing basis in the following aspects:
- crisis intervention
- referrals to specialists
- programme development
- project management (planning and launch of community projects etc.)
The youth coaches are trained to make the relevant referrals to their community support networks and work in close cooperation with the various role players within their local communities like local churches, social workers, counselors, psychologists and health workers.
Coaches are also regularly assessed through a formal and informal assessment and stakeholder feedback process.
One youth coach costs R9 600 per month (R 115 200 per year). This cost includes administrative support, training and continuous development of the coach. In addition to the youth coaches in the school, AMP also employs staff in administrative, marketing and managerial positions to support the activities of the youth coaches.
